Restrictions : A Part of My Life

A Childhood Full of Hope

“Childhood is a priceless part of our lives"

You might have heard somewhere that girls have a lot of restrictions at home, at school, and mainly in society. But is this only happening with girls? The restrictions on a girl are a public issue now, but no one is there to know what types of restrictions a boy has to face in society. Till now you may have some idea about what the story is about. So, let us move ahead….

The story starts with a simple and small boy named Rahul, who is only six years old and lives in a small town called Rampur. Rahul just completed his pre-primary education with good grades and now it’s time to join a new school. Rahul’s father wants him to join the local school but his mother wants him to join the best school in the district. Rahul doesn't want to get into this conversation because he was so much excited about the school change. He has never visited a primary school, but he has heard so many incidents about primary schools from his brothers and friends. Once his mom told her that when he reached primary school, there were no restrictions on him. He can go anywhere he wants, can do anything he wants, and can eat anything. From the day he listened to all these things from his mom he wanted to reach primary school as soon as possible. And now the time has come. Finally, his father wins the argument and now Rahul is going to join the local English medium school.

Rahul’s father is a very experienced and respected teacher in his town. He teaches mathematics and science at a girls’ school and he also runs a coaching center. At that time, he was the only teacher who could teach mathematics to secondary school students, which created his good reputation in Rampur. And this reputation always comes in front of Rahul’s progress. At the time of admission to primary school, all of Rahul’s friends have to give the admission examination but Rahul doesn't. This is just because of his father’s reputation. He got direct admission.

After his admission, he got to know that most of his friends are disqualified on that examination and they don’t get admission. It’s very painful for Rahul that he skips that examination. He feels that maybe he too would have been rejected.

But now it’s not time to think so much. As the time nears for the school to open. He is facing many changes like new uniforms, bags, pencil boxes, and books. And mainly he was excited to meet new friends. He is now been crazy to start his new school, all the time he has just school in his mind. The whole day his mind keeps planning about the advantages he wants to do in school, the games he will play with friends, and the feeling of standing in big assemblies.

Now there are only 2 days left for school to start, and his excitement has reached the next level. At that night's dinner, he talked to his father about school and his plans for the school. His father got angry because there was no talk about studies in his planning. His father scolds him and says, “We are sending you to school for learning, not for being a loafer. So, it’s better if you realize that you are not a kid now”. His father’s words sting in his heart and destroy all his plans and excitement for school. His small heart was filled with sadness and his lovely eyes were filled with tears. He got up from the dinner table without finishing his dinner and went to bed and slept.

The next day, he told all this incident to an uncle in the neighborhood. Rahul calls him uncle but he was in 7th standard at that time and his name was Krishna. Rahul likes Krishna and his family because he feels like they are the only ones who understand him. After listening to Rahul, Krishna said, “Your father is a teacher and he wants you to study hard and achieve something big in life, and as far as scolding is concerned, parents' scolding is for the good of the children." Rahul understood everything and he replied, “Yes, I will study hard in my new school and feel my parents proud."

Now it was the day. School is going to start tomorrow. And Rahul was busy packing - new bags, new water bottles, and new notebooks. At night while talking with his parents, they gave him some instructions about school. His father said, “You are going to a big school now, and you have to be disciplined. I don’t want any type of complaint from your school. No unusual friendships, No misbehaving in school. I have a good reputation in your school and I want you to maintain that."

Rahul understands that school life is going to be tough for him. With a soft voice he replied, “Yes dad, I will take care of it."

His father started once again, “Good, and remember friendship can destroy anyone, so do friendships with only good students who come to study not for only passing time. And stay away from girls." Rahul nodded yes.

After listening to all these things Rahul feels like school is a jail for him and his parents are the jailers. But he didn't want to destroy his good mood, so he diverted his mind to television. He was trying to divert his mind but he failed at it. After some time, he slept because he had to wake up early the next day.

On the next day, it's time for getting ready for school. Rahul after getting ready prays in front of God, “Hey God! Please let me enjoy my school life." Rahul asked her mom, What’s the time? His mom replied, "One hour left!" Rahul took breakfast and then his father drove him to school. On the way, his father once again repeated all the instructions. Rahul was trying to forget all those instructions but his father once again compelled him to think about all that.

Now he has reached his new school, the big buildings, the big playground, the new environment, and so many new faces. His father takes him to his class. Rahul sees all the teachers at his school saying “Good morning, Sir!” to his father. The school is new for Rahul but Rahul is now not new to the school. All the teachers already know him. Finally, he reached his class and the class teacher came out to talk to his father. After a long talk, his father introduced Rahul to his teacher and she took him inside the class. His teacher removed one student from the first bench and gave that seat to Rahul. The teacher started the class and asked everyone about him and his family. Rahul started creating the answer in his mind, but what is this, the teacher didn't even ask him. Rahul felt very bad.
